The Triunfo YMCA presents...

Model United Nations for 6th-8th Graders

What is the United Nations?
The United Nations was established on October 24, 1945 with 51 member states (nations). Today, there are 190 member states. The primary purpose of the United Nations, as set out in its charter, is to maintain international peace and security, develop friendly relations among nations, based on respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and to be a center for harmonizing the actions of nations in attaining these common goals.

How can I make a difference?
As an ambassador, you can speak on many topics like Hunger, Global Warming, War, and other current issues that affect us every day!

What is an ambassador?
An ambassador is a participant in the Model United Nations program!

What do I do in the program?
As an ambassador, you are representing a country’s point of view on topics like Global Warming and war! You get to speak on the point of view from your chosen country! As a group, In March and May we attend two multi-day conferences with other YMCA’s from across the state. Over 600 ambassadors participate from California.

What do I get out of the Program?
This program looks great on college and high school applications. As an ambassador, you will learn about others’ cultures, world issues, develop conflict resolution skills, public speaking and leadership skills. You will be challenged to thoroughly immerse yourself in the country that you
represent!
